Why Should I Choose You?
Voting is a right and a major choice. A lot of people don’t realize how one vote can affect a nation. Who to vote for is another crucial thing to consider. What happens to our state or country will be determined by we write on the ballots.
Why and how do we choose a political candidate? Is it because of his brilliant TV campaigns and commercials? Are we enticed by the good looks he has been presented with on billboards, tarpaulins or other campaign materials? Or are we allured by the sweet words he said during his speech?
Voting is not just a right but also a big responsibility. Every voter should be clever enough to know who to vote against and who to vote for? With the reality of bribery, others do not take extra effort to be prudent in finding out more about their candidates. Some will tend to care less because they believe the one with the most bucks will win the crown anyway. But the truth is we can still rise above by knowing the best candidate there is.
We have heard their names and seen how they look like on TV and on their campaign materials. But those alone shouldn’t justify the reasons why we have placed our confidence upon them. Know the issues and the needs of your country and check if they are even part of your candidate’s concerns.
You don’t have to be politically inclined to be able to closely examine these candidates. Let us make wise use of the vast information, which are within our reach before we answer, “Why should I vote for you?”
Perils of Bribery
Bribery is one of the most evil practices. As voters, we might not have the skill to find out how to eradicate such type of evil. The wisest thing we can do for our nation is to avoid being an accessory to the crime.
A lot of businesses were pulled down because of the practice of bribery by their rivals. This is also one of the wicked moves commonly practiced during campaign and even during elections. Instead of casting one’s vote because the candidate deserved to be trusted to lead the nation, an undeserving person is considered because of the money he bought those votes for.
A candidate giving bribes should open our eyes to the reality that he doesn’t deserve to be granted our confidence. If he is worth it, why would he offer money to pay off for the people’s votes in the first place? Do we deserve to be treated that way?
Bribery is manipulation in a different costume. These candidates will really find ways to get our eyes off the nasty information about them. We should be more intelligent than that. Observations and studies show that if the US Treasury will directly finance these political movements, rate of bribery is expected to decrease. But then again, we don’t have any control over that.
Don’t throw your precious vote away by giving in to bribery. Submitting ourselves to that evil act will make us the other evil one. If the nation falls because of a bad leader, can we just shrug our shoulders and pretend we have nothing to do with it?
Know Your Candidate
One of the foolish mistakes that one voter can do is go to a polling center and write a name of a candidate on a ballot just for the sake of exercising his right to vote. Without properly checking on the identification of a certain candidate, it is unwise to cast a vote in his favor.
It can be very tedious and challenging to obtain information about political candidates. But with the present innovation and the beauty of the new technology, we have ample resources, which provide accurate information on the candidates seeking positions. The Internet can provide ready answers if we ask about their educational information.
Do not just rely on the colorful campaign materials, which can mislead us from the truth. Let us be resourceful in finding ways to discover how to see them in a different light. But once we get hold of data, let us not immediately absorb them as truth. Let us scrutinize them closely by checking on the writer and publisher to make sure we are not getting some deceitful data. Those writers may just be painting a picture of a sheep to represent a person who is actually a wolf.
Aside from educational attainment of these political candidates, it will also help on finding out his family background. How the candidates are with their families can somehow give us hints on how they can be the nation’s fathers. You may also gather more reliable facts by getting involved in discussions about candidates with friends and family.
Use the Power of Your Vote
Everyone’s demanding for change. We all got tired of false promises. One of the important contributions we can do to our nation is to properly use our rights to vote after skillfully knowing our candidates. ”One vote will make a difference”. That has been said time and again. This time really make a difference by using the power of your vote.
First, you have to be aware of your rights as a voter. You have every right to demand for confidentiality of your vote and at the same time should be responsible enough to protect other voters’ privacy. Even in cases when your name is not on the poll record of the center where you belong, know that you can still exercise your right on a provisional ballot. Physically challenged voters have the right to seek for assistance and are definitely permitted inside poll centers.
Know your responsibilities, too. If you find someone in your poll area whose residency is questionable, you have every right to query on that, and the right to be given appropriate information and accurate answer. It is your responsibility to challenge that, and to relay to the authorities any election laws that you deem as violated.
Make sure your precious vote is considered because you were responsible enough to present the essential identification at the voting center. To ensure that you are putting in the right data on the ballot, know the complete name of your candidate. Otherwise, you are just wasting your time and effort.
Know Your Rights as a Voter
Don’t be shoved aside because of ignorance. Know your rights as a voter. Aside from your right to attend campaigns of candidates, you have every right to know the essential information not just about your prospective candidate, but also to all the proceedings of the election.
Depending on the state or county you are in, voters are permitted to wear materials (like shirts or arm bands) as manifestations of their endorsement of a specific candidate. On the day of election, you may still do so, but you can no longer actively promote your candidate. If you have volunteered as poll manpower, in some states, wearing of any campaign material is no longer allowed.
If you are voting for the first time, you will be asked to present identification which can be your voter’s ID or any of the following identification with photo: driver’s license, U.S. passport, U.S. Armed Forces ID, employee or student ID.
Voter’s ID, IDs issued by your county/state or the U.S. government, firearm permit, current bank statement, government check or current utility bill are among the valid non-photo identification. In the absence of the aforementioned IDs, you can still exercise your right to vote but only on provisional ballot.
If you believe you are in the right voting center but you don’t find your name on the poll record, you must inform the Citizen’s hotline in your area or ask for a provisional ballot. Remember every citizen is entitled to exercise his right to cast his vote. Even the physically challenged individuals are permitted to enter poll stations, and are also given special assistance.
Identifying Black Propaganda
You have finally decided on who your President is. Suddenly, you hear some nasty information about your Joe. You gasped at the supposedly painful truths about that guy who you believe deserves your precious vote. Unknowingly, you are led to a certain direction opposing your decision.
For some persons it is easy to embarrass and lie about someone. Without being sure of the validity of the information, you now find yourself submitting to it and believing in every word. You should feel thankful if those were credible information, but what if those data are just part of a black propaganda?
Black propagandas are lies and deceitful information. It is how you receive them that determine their success. You must know how to establish a black propaganda from accurate information. You must not easily give in to the rumors that are conveniently spread as bad press releases through radio or the television.
While no person, especially a political candidate, is confirmed to have totally unsoiled reputation, believing the creative fabrication might do you more harm than good. After all, your candidate whose name is being ruined might be deserving of your trust and your vote after all.
You must be cautious of these types of attacks especially by individuals who desire to pull you out of your firm decision. Do your homework. You might not have the ability to discover the sources of these lies, but you have the option to research more about your candidate. You must know how to destroy confidence in false rumors.
